Your washing machine is likely to be an appliance that you use on a regular basis, particularly if you are a family that has plenty of clothes to wash. However, this means that it is likely that plenty of your daily energy will be spent out on your washing machine. The amount of energy that you use can be reduced by:
- Leaving a little bit of space within the drum so that the clothes can move around and be cleaned properly.
- Setting the washing machine to a lower temperature, or putting it on an eco setting in order to use less water and energy.
The way that you store your groceries can have a huge impact on the amount of energy that your fridge uses. If you fill it too much then the cold air won’t be able to move around freely, which means that the fridge has to work harder to keep everything cool.
A good way to reduce the amount in your fridge is to give it a regular clean out to make sure that you are not keeping things in there that don’t need to be. Also remember that there are some food that doesn’t need to be stored in the fridge such as beans, onions and potatoes.
If there is an appliance that is going to use lots of energy then it is the oven, and unfortunately there is no other option but to use it.
However, that said, there are some ways that you can use less energy when cooking. One simple way is to use glass or ceramic utensils, they absorb heat and pass it into the good, cooking it easier.
You should also avoid leaving the oven door open, or opening it too much, as this lets the heat escape. Instead, you should make sure that your oven door is nice and clean, so that you can see how well the food inside is cooking without opening the door.
